Drive up the West Coast road via the Ostrich show ranch and the tiny towns of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek Wes via Moreesburg and across the wheat farming area of the Swartland, the breadbasket of the Cape. The sunburnt rolling wheatlands are interspersed with stark white-washed often derelict farmsteads, cottages and lone Eucalyptus trees.

Lunch at the Strandkombuis at Langebaan. A rustic, open-air beach restaurant set in protective dune bush. The bread is baked in a wood-fired oven, the fish barbequed in unique West Coast style. Ten steps down a dune leads onto 7 mile Beach, a wide bright white beach and the icy Atlantic Ocean. The sun always shines on this stark, arid coastline. Opportunity to visit the West Coast Fossil Park. Afternoon drive via the old lime kilns, where sea shells were once fired to make a chalky powder needed for white-washing walls, and through another historic farming town, Darling. Watch the sunset from the sand dunes at Bloubergstrand Beach which has fantastic views across Table Bay of Robben Island, Table Mountain and the city of Cape Town. In the windy months this beach is ideal for kite flying.
